Zivojno village (Село Живојно) – Novaci Municipality

Zivojno is hilly village situated in the southeast of Bitola on elevation 710 meters above sea level, near the Macedonian-Greek border. It is thought that for the first time in this place was settled by the family of “Zivan”, hence the name of the village.

In 1897 in this village were registered 130 families, of which 445 residents were Christians and 300 Muslim.
Area of the village is hilly land and covers an area of 29.8 km2, of which arable land is 1.218 ha, and the rest is pasture. Village holiday “Slava” is Ascension Day.

In 1934 the village had independent power plant and electricity. Near the village there is a coal mine, from where the coal was dug out and by train on narrow gauge was transported to Kremenica and then to Bitola. The plant worked until 1952. Zivojno was again electrified in 1961 and the water supply system was built in 1980.

Church of the Ascension of Christ was built, painted and enriched with icons and books in 1885. It is build with stone, vaulted with a semicircular arch, nave with an entrance on the south side. The church was rebuilt after the Second World War and in 1990 again renovated. Near the church are located the village cemetery and on one part graves from the First World War (Serbian Army) can be seen.
