House of Urania, Ohrid
At first glance, it may seem like a continuation of the same building, but standing just across the street from the famous Robevci House, you’ll find the elegant and quietly distinctive House of Urania.
Built in the second half of the 19th century, the House of Urania is a remarkable example of traditional old-town architecture in Ohrid. Its design is notably asymmetrical, yet perfectly balanced, with harmonious forms that reflect both aesthetic sensitivity and skilled craftsmanship. What makes this house especially valuable is its authenticity—it is one of the few preserved examples of Ohrid’s historic residential architecture that has remained largely unchanged over time.
The house originally belonged to the Filevi family, a well-known Ohrid household. Its name comes from Urania, an elderly woman who was the last resident of the house. In her memory, the building proudly carries her name to this day.
Today, the House of Urania is owned by the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, continuing its story as a place of cultural and historical significance.
